I’ve lived in Woodinville since 2018 when I moved from Seattle to the new Vinterra neighborhood in our city’s West Ridge. I moved to Woodinville in search of a better place to raise a family. I didn’t know much about the city at the time. Facing the question of whether to move to Bothell or Woodinville, my real estate agent replied to my e-mail: “pick Woodinville, it’s a brand name.” It didn’t take long to understand why. Our city is the gem of Western Washington, standing out in an already beautiful region. Woodinville was well-run and remains very safe relative to larger cities that are just minutes away. Despite this proximity, we still have a small town feel that I deeply value. Our city continues to live up to its motto, “City Living, Country Style.”
About Jeff Lyon
My Career
Before moving to Washington, I served as a U.S. Navy police officer and reached the rank of First Class Petty Officer. In 2009, I deployed to Afghanistan where I led operations for a civil affairs unit rebuilding Farah Province. I also served two years as a Deputy Sheriff for the City of Chesapeake, Virginia. Through these experiences I learned the importance of being an exceptional steward of public trust and putting service above self at any cost. I intend to embody these principles while serving the City of Woodinville. After serving in the Navy, I started a career in tech, including management and executive roles at Amazon, Robinhood, and Coinbase where I led teams of up to 80 employees, managed budgets over $100 million, secured the IT assets of Fortune 50 companies, and protected hundreds of billions of dollars in customer funds.
Why I Serve
My daughter Natalia is my greatest motivation. Woodinville is our forever home and I want our community to be one that she will be proud of 20 years from now. When the closure of Molbak’s was announced in 2023, I realized that something had changed. I took my frustration to Facebook and encountered a defensive mayor who refused to take any responsibility for the circumstances leading to that moment. I started attending the City Council meetings and quickly realized that our local government had become an apparatus of regional politicians. I witnessed a pattern of unethical behavior, reckless spending, discrimination, slander, and baseless personal attacks against anyone who dares to challenge their agenda.
I knew that I had to act. I started the Democratic Woodinville PAC to advocate for our community by promoting awareness of civic issues and effective representation in local government. My goal is to increase democratic participation, voter turnout, and level the field for residents who want to run for office. I’ve offered free support to five candidates running for three other City Council positions.
In less than a month, I was publicly attacked by the King County Democrats and 1st Legislative District Democrats, despite sharing progressive values. Why? Their power is threatened and without my involvement the incumbent majority would be unopposed in the 2025 General Elections.
I am undeterred and will continue to fight for a responsible, inclusive, and ethical Woodinville that we can be proud of today and decades into the future. Woodinville will stay a name brand.
I’m running to protect what makes Woodinville feel like home: responsible growth, ethical leadership, and housing that’s within reach of seniors and working families. Show your support by pledging your vote today.
